Primary school Phone Soe Gyi
The primary school in Phone Soe Gyi on the Bay of Bengal was built after Cyclone Nargis.
It offers space for 40-60 children.
In 2009, this school, destroyed by Cyclone Nargis, was rebuilt from local materials such as bamboo and wood.
The costs of the school were covered by Mr. and Mrs. Gehrig, Switzerland and their friends.
In 2012, with the help of the villagers, we replaced the bamboo walls with stone walls so that the school would not have to be renovated every 2-3 years. Since strong storms often occur in the Bay of Bengal during the rainy season, the school also serves as a shelter during bad weather. It is also used as a meeting place for the villagers.
