Cyclone Nargis 2008

Cyclone Nargis killed 140,000 people. Many lost everything. The harvest was destroyed.

In the night from May 2 to 3, 2008, Cyclone Nargis raced inland at 240 kilometers per hour. 140,000 people died. Thousands were left homeless and lost everything in the flood. Nargis destroyed entire villages and flooded the fields of the rice bowl with salt water.

That was the birth of Project Burma. With money collected in a hurry and the help of our Burmese friends, we managed to rebuild entire villages in the delta, distribute fishing boats and nets, seeds and fertilizer.
We distributed pots, pans, clothing and everything needed. We made sure that the people in our new villages had enough to eat until they could stand on their own two feet again. Hope for a new future.
